Venous thromboembolism (venous thromboembolism / VTE) is a common vascular disease with faint symptom that usually do not realize. Venous thromboembolism is characterized by the presence of blood clot (thrombus) or a blood clot that hovers and takes the bloodstream (embolus) in the veins and cause blockage of blood flow. VTE is a disease that needs to be addressed as a result of fatal and requires no small cost in maintenance.

VTE is associated with deep venous thrombosis (deep vein thrombisis / DVT) is the occurrence of blood clots (thrombosis) in the deep venous system. Can occur in the veins of the lower limbs and upper limbs. Deep vein thrombosis can block blood flow in total or in part.

Venous embolism can involve the pulmonary blood vessels and cause pulmonary embolism (pulmonary embolism / PE) and blocking blood flow. If the embolus clogging, could have been caught in blood vessels of the lungs.

Pulmonary embolism

If pulmonary embolism is not treated immediately, can cause death. So it is very important for VTE disease preventable. About 80% of deep venous thrombosis is unknown (silent) clinically. In addition, more than 70% of fatal pulmonary embolism was detected only after death. Dr. RWM Kaligis SpJP (K) suggests that deep venous thrombosis is a disease that has resembled an iceberg phenomenon.
